Taryn Assaf, Student Midwife
"when strong and loving families are born, strong and loving societies are built " Taryn Assaf
Taryn is a first-year midwifery student at Birthwise Midwifery school in Bridgton, Maine.
Originally from Canada, her birth work journey has spanned several years and several countries, including Korea, Bali, Canada, and now the U.S.
Taryn returns to Gentle Landing Midwifery after an 18 month break to help bring choice and dignity to families giving birth in Vermont and New Hampshire.
“I believe that each individual person is the expert on their own experience and their life, and that everyone deserves to feel centered and grounded in times of transition -- pregnancy and birth included. Our culture is so fear-centric: fear of birth, fear of pain, fear of discomfort, fear of death, fear of difference, fear of change. I strive every day to live in trust.
Pregnancy is, among many things, about opening yourself up to your fears and building the confidence to overcome them in an attempt to birth and parent with trust, intention, love, strength, and patience. Midwifery offers the space and tools for these transitions to take place, so that we can all aspire to live in trust.
Midwifery offers me a chance to not only support new and growing families through profound transition and challenge, but to strengthen the community, because when strong and loving families are born, strong and loving societies are built.
Thank you for welcoming me into your community.”
